Manta Mobile Proxies for Business Listing and Citation Checks

Manta is a directory of small businesses, arranged by category and city, with claimed profiles that owners edit and unclaimed ones built from public records. It is one of the citation sources local search tools check, so the name, address and phone on a Manta listing need to match what the business publishes everywhere else. Manta also sells marketing services and shows sponsored listings on its city pages. A business, or the agency that manages its citations, wants to see the listing as a customer in the city sees it and confirm the details are right. Dedicated Mobile Proxies gives you a carrier modem in the metro, with only your traffic on it.

City pages and the detected location

Manta's browse pages are per category per city, and the site chooses a default city from the visitor's address. Search results favour businesses near the visitor. Sponsored listings sit above organic ones and are sold per market. The claimed profile shows the fields the owner wrote, while an unclaimed profile shows whatever public record Manta imported, which is where most errors live.

A carrier address in Los Angeles resolves to Los Angeles, so Manta's default city and nearby results are the Los Angeles ones. Our modems hold AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon SIMs in eight US metros. From a data centre address the default city is often wrong and the nearby results are about nowhere in particular.

Citation accuracy, checked from the market

The job is dull and important: open the listing, read the name, address, phone, hours, website and categories, and compare each against the master record the business keeps. Do the same for any duplicate listings Manta has built from old records, since duplicates confuse local search. Where something is wrong, correct it through the claimed account or file a claim for the unclaimed duplicate.

Doing this from the metro modem matters for two reasons. The page you see is the one local customers see, including the sponsored listings above yours. And the reading comes from one stable origin, so when a field changes you know it changed on Manta's side rather than because a different edition was served to a different address.

Agencies managing listings for clients

Citation agencies manage Manta profiles for dozens of businesses with those businesses' permission. Signing in to many claimed accounts from one office network is the pattern directories treat as suspicious, and the result is verification prompts and occasional holds. Spreading client accounts across modems, one per client or one per metro, gives each account an origin that makes sense for the business it belongs to: a Houston plumber's listing managed from a Houston carrier address.

The modems are never shared with another customer, so an agency can rely on each address staying where it is for the term. Rotation exists on every plan, but for listing management you want the opposite, and you get it by simply not rotating.

Competitor listings and sponsored slots

Everything on a competitor's public Manta profile is fair to read, and so are the sponsored slots on your category's city page. Recording which competitors hold those slots over a month tells you who is paying for Manta placement in your market. Pace the reading like a person: a handful of pages a day is monitoring, and unlimited data means volume was never the constraint anyway.

Scraping Manta in bulk is against its terms and unnecessary for this work. Read your own listings, your category page and your direct competitors, record what you see, and stop.

Costs and setup

Order the modem in the business's metro, choose a carrier, and put the proxy details into a browser profile used for directory work. Confirm Manta defaults to the right city, check each listing field by field, record the category page, and sign in to the claimed account from the same profile. Monthly plans are $69 on 4G and $79 on 5G, with weekly and daily options for a one-off audit and a two-hour test at $2 or $3 to confirm the location reading. Moves between our cities are free and keep the remaining time.

Setting up a Manta proxy on Dedicated Mobile Proxies

  1. Order a modem in the business's metro and pick a carrier.
  2. Confirm Manta defaults to the right city from the modem.
  3. Check every listing field against your master record, duplicates included.
  4. Record the category page, sponsored slots and competitor listings.
  5. Sign in to the claimed account from the same profile and keep it sticky.

Manta proxy questions

Does Manta pick my city from the modem's address?

Yes. The carrier address resolves to the metro and Manta defaults its browse pages and nearby results there.

Can I fix an unclaimed duplicate listing?

Claim it through Manta's process from the business's account, then correct or merge it. The modem only gives the account a stable origin.

How many client listings can one modem carry?

Group by metro or by client. Unrelated businesses in different cities are better on separate modems.

Is bulk scraping of Manta allowed?

No. Read your own listings and direct competitors by hand, which is all this work needs.
